Book presentation of Jason Stearns
“Dancing in the Glory of Monsters:
The Collapse of the Congo and the Great War of Africa”
EGMONT - Royal Institute for International Relations - in association with CRE-AC and the Observatoire de l’Afrique organizes the book presentation of Jason Stearns on 8th of June from 18:15 to 19:30 at the Palais d’Egmont, 8 bis, Place du Petit Sablon, 1000 Brussels.
This volume draws on more than a hundred interviews with protagonists of the conflict, painting a nuanced picture of the wars that have devastated the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1996. Jason Stearns tells the story of the conflict through the experiences of those who engineered and perpetrated it. Through their voices, he chronicles the political, social, and moral decay of the Congolese State.
Jason Stearns has been working on conflicts in the DRC for the past ten years. He was appointed by the UN Secretary General to lead a special UN investigation into the violence in the country in 2008. He has also worked for a Congolese human rights group, for the United Nations peacekeeping operation MONUC, and for the International Crisis Group. He is currently completing his PhD at Yale University.
