Theodore Trefon
Theodore Trefon is director of the Belgian Reference Centre for Expertise for Central Africa E-CA — CRE-AC) and heads the Contemporary History Section of the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium. He is visiting professor in the CADES programme of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and at ERAIFT “Ecole Régionale Post-Universitaire d’Aménagement et de Gestion Intégrés des Forêts et Territoires tropicaux” (University of Kinshasa). He is contributing editor to ROAPE (Review of African Political Economy).
A DRCongo area specialist, his research focuses on state-society relations, forest-city links, urban anthropology and environmental governance. After completing his Ph.D. in Political Science at Boston University, Dr Trefon worked on European Union-funded projects and was an advisor to the USAID Central Africa Program for the Environment. He has served as a consultant to CIFOR, UNESCO, CARE and the World Bank.
